I.M.G.O.
There was a time… long long ago when people who intended to meet would make a plan to be at the same location at the same time and then be there because if your weren’t if you couldn’t, there would be no way to contact the other person. A time before k-tais, mobiles, cellular black-bury, pocket bell ringing jangling buzzing convenience. I remember that time though only barely. People younger than me don’t. People who born after the movie ET. Which by the way, were it filmed today would be over pretty quick. ET phone home… ok, here you. But keep it short your planet isn’t on my pay plan. They’ve lived there whole lives constantly in touch with the entire world.
My current cell phone could now rightly be called retro and is a few calls away from finally ending up in the cell phone graveyard, a box in the back of my closet. I’ve been out looking at the new models and can’t decide between the new Voda-phone with the built in electronic skin tanning device or the docomo with the kidney dialysis function. My kidneys are fine, but why not. Probably Im best suited for the Tu-ka phone made for the elderly an handicapped with the large easily press-able buttons. It's a phone I can understand.
All I need is the ability to make phone calls. Do I even really need that though? All my phone has given me is a painful case of texters thumb, endless spam from dating sites and an overwhelming sense of anxiety if I ever leave my house without my phone, I can compare only to heroine withdrawal. I’m mean, I imagine of course, I’ve obviously never left my phone at home.
But what if I didn’t get a new phone. I have a friend, one of those rare luddite hermits who have no mobile phone. He always says if its important the message will get to me, if they really want to meet, people will show up on time. It's a nice mantra in this super juiced matrix society. Maybe I will… oh screw that… Im getting a blackberry implanted in my jawbone. Because apparently a life unconnected is a life unlived.

Ring Ring
Life without a phone
Is that even possible?
